Profile
International Filmfestival Emden-Norderney
Located up in the north-western corner of Germany on the North Sea coast, the International Filmfest Emden-Norderney is one of Germany’s most nationally acclaimed and internationally recognised film festivals. With over 100 films on 7 screens it is primarily a major audience festival for its 22,000 or so visitors. In addition, Emden is increasingly developing into a highly-regarded meeting place for numerous representatives of the German and North-West European film industry.
Big variety
The main focus of the programme is on current film productions from north-western Europe. Due to its extensive programme of new British and Irish films, the International Filmfest Emden-Norderney has also come to be regarded as a showcase for these productions in Germany.
The programme of films on offer includes new films from German-speaking countries, portraits of directors and actors, international highlights and discoveries as well as short films, and is rounded off by a programme of children’s and family films. A large part of the programme will be made up of German premieres, with subtitles provided by the Festival for numerous films.
Personal Atmosphere
Over the years the International Filmfest Emden-Norderney has acquired an excellent reputation, not least thanks to its warm, very personal atmosphere and a particular closeness between film-makers and its enthusiastic audiences.
The International Filmfest Emden-Norderney was founded in 1990 and takes place every year in May / June.
