Mixed Reality or how to promote regions sustainably?

nordmedia attended conference about Film tourism in Ystad, Sweden

The theme of this year's Mixed Reality Conference was “Location based storytelling”.  The 100 participants from film, tourism and innovative media business got exciting insights in augmented reality, participatory drama, film tourism and the use of mobile technology and game mechanics. Mixed Reality is also a good place to establish new collaborations and meet representatives and decision makers from different sections.

Julie Lindegaard

Julie Lindegaard (North Sea Screen partner Filmfyn) presented her concepts on film-marketing and -tourism. By means of different film offers for tourists as part of the EU-Interreg project North Sea Screen Partners, she is working on the establishment and development of the film environment at Funen.
FilmFyn has invested in the Oscar winning movie “In a Better World” by Susanne Bier, which is produced in the South Funen area. The success of the film became the beginning of film tourism in the South Funen area.

Carlo Blatz

Carlo Blatz from the German multimedia agency Powerflasher developed many innovative projects like the first interactive cinema movie and The Witness – the first movie in the outernet. It has been developed as an App-game for Smartphone. With the combination of new technologies like Augmented Reality, Face Tracking, Voice Recognition and Artificial Intelligence Carlo and his team push the creative and technical boundaries to a new level.

The conference was led by the well known Swedish film critic, journalist and lecturer Orvar Säfström. The conference ended with two workshops about film tourism and storytelling. The original idea of the conference is inspired by Ystad's successful development of film tourism around the popular series of Inspector Kurt Wallander.
