Lake Maschsee and Town Hall
Hanover is the city of (royal) gardens, (a multitude of) exhibitions, (varied) museums, (numerous) congresses, (cheerful) festivals, (first-division) sports and (relaxing) recreation. And in the middle of all
this: many drinking halls, the Kiosk culture typical of the beginning of the twentieth century. In the Royal Gardens in Herrenhausen, one of the most beautiful parks in Europe, you can stroll around as if you
were in the age of the prince-electors. And in the Eilenriede forest there is fresh air throughout the year: the city‘s forest is the “green lung” for the residents of Hanover – much bigger than Central Park.

It only takes around 100 minutes on the train from the capital to the river Leine. Hanover‘s main railway station is the hub for travellers between the North and the South, the East and West. A colourful, lively bustle between Raschplatz and the pedestrian zone. And the international airport provides connections throughout the world. Hanover as the centre of a large region: nearly four million people live around the regional capital. A varied metropolitan region, to be sure, situated in the valley of the Leine between the mountains of Niedersachsen and the North German plane. In the South-West, the foothills of the Weser mountains border on the city, in the North the sandy moors of the Geest landscapes.
As a film setting Hanover regularly provides the backdrop for the "NDR Tatort" series with Maria Furtwängler (the episodes Wem Ehre gebührt and Erntedank e. V.). Debut films such as "Nichts geht mehr", "Baby" and "Vineta", and short films such as the prize-winning "Together" and "Felix" were largely made in the region. In "Yella" by Christian Petzold, the city itself shows its cool side. Other TV films, such as the Wedel productions "Mein alter Freund Fritz" and "Mit Glanz und Gloria" use Hanover as a major motif.
