Over the last few years the annual "Hands-On HD Workshop & Network" event in Hanover has become a kind of "testing laboratory" for film and television production of the future. nordmedia, the media company of the states of Lower Saxony and Bremen in cooperation with Band Pro Munich will again be organising this event, which is unique and well-known throughout Europe, for the ninth time in 2011. Hands-On HD will be introducing itself from 1 to 6 August 2011 with major new products and services. The core of the event will be training in the complete workflow of a digital production in various areas of use and in the modular structure of post-production classes for the first time. This year the integrated, two-day Hands-On HD conference from 4-5 August in the workshop & network event will be even more exclusive with selected production and fields reports supplying answers to design-based, technical and commercial questions in digital productions.
Subdivided into two areas, the participants will be able to choose between professional broadcasting / TV movies and 35mm digital cinematography this year for the first time, thereby creating a broader basis of knowledge. Through the direct opportunity to make comparisons, participants will be able to react better to project requirements in future. As in the workshop, the conference will also be concerned with central commercial and creative issues to do with digital production. The entire workflow will thus be practically oriented all the time and will offer those working in the media industry a wide range of options.
The camera workshop will focus on practical exercises combined with professional lectures in order to impart basic theory. With this knowledge, participants and course leaders will deliberately take recording techniques to the limits and learn to use existing options.
For experienced users in the HD field, the master class, led by well-known international lecturers, will provide an overview of the various current sys-tems and will carry out comparative practical exercises with the various systems on the sets.
In the post-production workshops the participants will be shown such things as material recorded in the camera classes, the basics and the most important problems for users of the new HD technologies. For the first time participants will also be free to select modules in these classes, enabling theory and practice to complement each other.
Since 2007, Hands-On HD has also offered its own thread in the field of stereo 3D where various rigs / cameras are tested. The recorded material will be prepared in post-production and compared and contrasted. In cooperation with ZDF, Germany's second public television channel, nordmedia has also offered a closed ZDF class since 2010. Camera operators and technicians, cutters, editors and production staff with previous knowledge of production methods will familiarise participants with the workflow of a wide range of HD productions. Participants will thus be able to learn the advantages and disadvantages of the various HD acquisition and post-production systems and the specific workflow.
In addition, the Crossover Day will provide all participants with both a wide range of showcases, including in the high-speed field and bullet-time effects and the opportunity to try out special systems.
A further highlight will be the network party on 4 August. Participants, partners and sponsors will be able to make contacts and exchange experience.
The venue will be the Expo grounds in Hanover, specifically the premises of the Hanover multimedia vocational schools, which will provide ideal conditions for the workshop. The adjacent Competence Centre "Planet MID" for Media, Information and Design of the Hanover Institute of Technology (Planet M) with its integrated digital cinema will also function as the venue for the conference.
The normal registration fee will be 900 euros for camera or post-production. Those registering by 1 July 2011 will receive an early bookers' discount of 10% off this fee. A reduced registration fee will also be offered to (Association) members of BVFK, bvkamera, bfs, FKTG, ver.di and participants resident in Lower Saxony and Bremen, as well students and trainees/apprentices (on production of the appropriate ID). All these people may register for a reduced fee of 750 euros.
This year as well, nordmedia will be awarding a total of ten bursaries to junior employees from Lower Saxony and Bremen, which will include a reduced fee for the areas of camera, post-production and stereo 3D. Bursary-holders will pay 300 euros instead of the normal 900 euros. More detailed information can be found at www.handsonhd.de.
Since its formation in 2001, nordmedia has been especially involved in the field of digital media as well and offers a large number of networking events. You will find press photos of the previous events on our website at www.handsonhd.de.
